On April 10th, 2023, Mill Creek Park, Youngstown, OH is preparing to approve crossbow and firearm hunting of our deer within our neighborhoods. Pet dogs and cats have been accidentally killed and injured in other Ohio cities that allow this practice. This program is an accident waiting to happen. Who will be liable if any injuries, death or property damage occur? We feel this is very unsafe for our neighbors, children and pets. We urge EVERYONE, especially Mahoning County Residents to OPPOSE this hunt within Mill Creek Park. 

We urge Mill Creek Park instead to:

1) Re-evaluate the Park's apparent flawed  survey. We believe their estimate of 387 deer per square mile in Mill Creek Park is COMPLETELY INACCURATE. 

2) Exhaust all non-lethal options for controlling the deer population. The Park has not explored all alternative options and we request this is done before even considering culling. A few alternative measures to culling include:

▪️Provide resources and suggestions of deer repellent strategies and materials to the community. Communicate the city’s published information to the public by including information with the mailing of a city bill or separate mailing.

▪️Evaluate various birth control or sterilization methods as well as funding/ grant opportunities.
