Jared White started this petition to Board of Directors Secretary Collette Langston and
  • Metrolink (Southern California) bought brand new EMD F-125s to replace the older EMD F59PH, EMD F59PHIs, and the EMD F40PH which is the 800. The 800 is the only F40PH that Metrolink owns and it’s was the oldest in the fleet. The new F125’s were bought with the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) grant and the policy of the grant is they have to disable the engine permanently or refit the engine with a Tier 4 or depower the locomotive. Railfans want to save the F40PH and put it in a railroad museum because it has history to Southern California and it was a railfan favorite because of it’s beautiful heritage and looks!

History of the Metrolink EMD F40PH 800: This F40PH was built in 1985 as Amtrak 396 during its second to last order during that year. It has lead & trailed all of the SoCal trains during it’s Amtrak Career in it’s beautiful Amtrak Phase III Red, White, & Blue colors and showing off it’s beautiful K5LA. When Metrolink bought the F40PH in 2005 along with 3 other ex Amtrak F40PHs and a few ex Union Pacific SD60s to attempt to make their own locomotives. But when Metrolink scrapped the idea due to too much work, This locomotive was the only one survived without any work done to it was Amtrak rebuilt this F40PH along with the newest order of F40’s back in the 2000’s right before this unit was retired by Amtrak. This locomotive was only used as a switcher and a rescue unit for Metrolink due to it not being the engineers favorite but when it lead the Metrolink trains, it was a huge treat for the railfans!

There are two preserved Amtrak F40PHs in the surrounding area, California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento has 281 & Dymanic Rail Preservation with Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder has 231.

Please help fight us railfans and for the history of Southern California to get Metrolink 800 (Amtrak 396) into Southern California Railroad Museum formerly Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris or a railroad society in SoCal!

We appreciate your help and please share! Time is running out on this locomotive.

Thank you!
