SAVE THE MEDINA MUNICIPAL AIRPORT - 1G5

The Issue

We, the signers of this petition, are respectfully demanding the City of Medina Ohio immediately dissolve their business relationship with Flight Services of Medina and its members, partners, subsidiaries, and holding companies.

Medina Municipal Airport 1G5 is an asset for the city of Medina that should serve the city, the county, and those that use the airport. Sadly, under the current exclusive lease, there is no desire, no incentive, and/or no will to make improvements to the airport or perform simple upkeep and maintenance.

In the winter months, it is more common than not that the runways and taxiways are unsafe and unusable, and, un-NOTAMed. While all surrounding airports are safe and functioning.

The hangars continue to decline with fewer and fewer being both available and serviceable as time passes. Again, little to no interest in making the necessary repairs or improvements that would allow MORE use of the airport. Moreover, the operation has continued to RAISE the hangar rental prices to the HIGHEST in the area, yet does nothing to repair or maintain said facilities, including simply replacing light bulbs. Frequently the doors on the rental hangars simply become "stuck", especially in the winter months, rendering the ability for the tenants to make use of the space impossible. The inaction by the airport operations speaks much more loudly than their words.

The taxiways are in need of repair and/or replacement around the hangars. In many instances they are cracked, broken, and represent significant risk to operations.

Lastly, the current operators of the airport have taken actions to remove one of the last "working" pieces of the airport community, namely the aircraft maintenance operation that has been based at the airport these last many months.

We can all agree that this airport has been on a downward slide for many, many years. There is SO MUCH potential for it to better serve the community on the field as well as the city and county at large. This will ONLY happen with a change in leadership and management. If you need proof, look no further than the surrounding airport communities, all are thriving, all are growing, and all are investing. Not more than five years ago, 3G3 (8 miles to the South) was a sleepy little airport. With love and leadership, there is now the LARGEST flight school in the region with freshly paved runways and a remodeled FBO.

If you would prefer to maintain the status quo, if you are happy with the steady decline, if you would prefer to stand idly by and watch as another gem of aviation is lost, then do not sign this petition.

If you love aviation, if you love the Medina Municipal Airport, and if you are ready to see the necessary changes needed to allow it to reach its potential, please sign the following.

Mayor, City Councillors, those signing this petition respectfully demand your immediate action to save Medina Municipal Airport!
