Dear Nature Friends, I‘m a student from Germany working on a Project for the Sustainable Development Goals of the Agenda 2030. My focus is on Saving Underwater Life and I had the idea to make a petition about Mangrove forests, since they are highly important for the ecosystem near tropical coasts.

Mangroves are the habitat of many fish, crabs, shrimp and shells. Many kind of animals have their only chance of surviving through the existence of Mangrove forests. That is due to their food capacity, biodiversity and therefore, Mangroves are the reason that many fish kinds are not going extinct and their stocks can live for more than just a few couple of years, since climate change makes it hard for everyone.

Outside of the underwater world are Mangrove forests also exemplary for protection against storms and tsunamis. These trees save 3 to 5 times more CO2 than local deciduous forests.

Every year, the area of those woods sinks with more than 20,000 hectares.

With this petition, I want to take initiative and have a voice within many. Let’s show, especially the shrimp industry that what they are doing is having an impact on our world population. 
Every day, another animal kind is going extinct. You can do something about it.
