Save the MAAC Esports LAN

The Issue

For 3 years, the MAAC schools that participated in Esports have always gone to a LAN (Local area network) event at Atlantic City, however, this year is different. The MAAC has decided to raise the fees an extra thousand dollars and only allow the top 4 teams from each game to go to a new area. Not only was this announcement late it is also leaving out many details, i.e. times of matches, where the players will be staying, etc. This is extremely unprofessional of a professional college sports league but removes the culminating experience that players enjoyed. With these changes many schools that do not have the funding or player counts are unable to go and enjoy the LAN event. This event allowed players to meet in person and create memories with each other as well as create new friends and meet new people from the MAAC Esports sphere. The MAAC league has always been unbalanced with only a small handful of schools being in the top half of the league, all this new event does is removes the lower half of the league from participating in the LAN event. The MAAC chose to have a new area for the event (Hudson Valley) for it was more centralized, but they are restricting the event to only a select few schools.

Overall the new changes are a pay more get less system and removes the one thing that connected and brought the MAAC schools together. Now friends will be unable to see each other in person because of this. No players have easy access to any MAAC officials, so we ask that with your support, the MAAC officials will be able to listen to us and hear our voices for change instead of throwing Esports to the side.
