Save Loon LakeUnited States

13 Nov 2025
Hello everyone -
We have surpassed 1,600 signatures in a little over two weeks! It’s amazing to see this tremendous grassroots support for protecting clean water, the preservation of woodlands and wetlands for wildlife, and keeping the overall environment at Loon Lake intact and wild.
We want to update you on the latest developments and also ask for your help for the next steps in our campaign to stop the poorly planned and environmentally harmful development.
Latest Developments
- Since the launch of the petition, the foreign landowners / developers started what they claim is a logging operation on the West side of Loon Lake. This appears to be rough grading for road construction and land prep for development (see attached photo).
- The Loon Lake Community Association (lLLCA) and numerous community members have been in continuous contact with the Adirondack Park Agency (APA) and are working with attorneys within the legal and court systems to keep Loon Lake wild and stop the environmentally harmful development:
- The LLCA filed complaints about the proposed subdivision with the APA. On Oct 16, the APA issued a letter to the Realtor prohibiting disturbance of land or sale of lots until permits were issued.
- After the foreign landowners commenced the aforementioned tree clearing Oct. 27, and many additional complaints filed, the APA issued a follow up contradictory letter to the Realtor (who is managing the tree clearing operation) stating that all activities underway on the West side of Loon Lake were considered timber harvesting, and do not require a permit or agency oversight. This became grounds for the LLCA to proceed to file a petition for a Court Order.
- The petition was filed in the State Supreme Court of New York in the county of Warren, N.Y. to stop the developers from clearing land for what looks to be roads, a beach and homes on the West side of Loon Lake.
- There are additional legal actions in the works.
- The Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation and other environmental non profit organizations in the Adirondack Park wrote to the Adirondack Park Agency ( APA) expressing their deep concern that the development will impact water quality in the lake and loon habitat.
- Loon Lake community members began placing lawn signs in a show of protest to the land clearing and impending development.
- The LLCA is evaluating engaging environmental consultants to aid in the defense.
Where We Need Your Help
- Lawyers and environmental consultants are expensive. Can you help by donating to the LLCA Legal Defense Fund now? We are looking to raise $30,000. Every donation counts, and none is too small. We can’t do this without you. Here’s the link to the donation page: Donate to LLCA Development Defense Legal Fund. (The Loon Lake Community Association is a non profit organization under section 501c (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All donations over $25.00 are tax deductible.)
- Reach out to family and friends who care about clean water and protecting woodlands and wetlands for wildlife. We’ll quickly get to 3,000+ petition signatures if we all just get one more person to sign the petition.
- Share your concerns and feelings with the key contacts at the Adirondack Park Agency,
- Corrie McGee, Environmental Program Specialist 2: corrie.magee@apa.ny.gov
- Barbara Rice, Executive Director: barbara.rice@apa.ny.gov
- John Burth, Deputy Director Regulatory Programs: john.burth@apa.ny.gov
- Mark Hall, APA Board Chair: mhall@slic.com
With much thanks and love from all of us from Save Loon Lake and the Loon Lake Community Association.
