Save the Lloyds Bank on Front Street in Arnold
The Issue
As the Member of Parliament for Gedling, I am deeply disappointed by news of the intended closure of the Lloyds Bank branch located on Front Street in Arnold. The proposed closure will leave a significant gap in local banking provision and will have a profound impact on many of my constituents, particularly those who rely on face‑to‑face banking services.
Banks are essential cornerstones of our communities, and the pace and scale of branch closures risk leaving large sections of the community behind, particularly elderly customers.
The closure of this branch will reduce access to essential financial services, increase isolation for vulnerable residents, and undermine the vitality of the local high street.
For many, especially those with mobility challenges, travelling to another branch is impractical, leading to significant barriers for customers who depend on in-person services, guidance, and advice.
Lloyds customers often have long‑standing relationships with the bank, including specific accounts, lending arrangements, and access to tailored financial advice, which cannot simply be replicated elsewhere without inconvenience and potential financial detriment. The services, systems, and customer experience provided by different banks vary significantly, making it neither straightforward nor appropriate to expect customers to switch providers.
Furthermore, many of my constituents rely on the familiarity and trust built with staff at their local Lloyds branch, especially when handling sensitive financial matters, while local businesses depend on specific facilities such as cash handling and secure deposits that may not be equivalently available elsewhere. Taken together, these factors mean that the presence of other banking institutions does not constitute a meaningful or adequate substitute.
The decision to close this branch does not align with Lloyds Bank's commitment to community service, a promise that their customers have valued and depended upon for years.
I urge Lloyds Bank to reconsider this closure and keep the Arnold branch open to continue providing vital services to the community. Stand with me in supporting our local bank branches by signing this petition. Together, let's convey to Lloyds Bank the significant role they play in our community and persuade them to remain a steadfast presence in Arnold.
