As a concerned citizen and resident of NSW, myself and communities have witnessed the devastating effects of climate change exacerbated by forest clearing. This has led to extreme weather conditions such as floods and fires, threatening not only our lives but also those of future generations. Moreover, this reckless urban sprawl is causing species extinction at an alarming rate. Newcastle

One such area under threat is the Link Road Forest that straddles Lake Macquarie and Newcastle in NSW. Over 5,000 people have already united to protect it from intense urban sprawl. This forest stands as a last bastion against residential development that is consuming all surrounding forests.

The forest is not just a piece of land; it's a sanctuary for rare and endangered animals like the powerful owl (two & possibly three pairs of nesting owls), koala (two located on site and many in the corridor up to Mt Sugarloaf) and squirrel glider whose habitats are being destroyed due to unchecked urbanization. It's time we stop fuelling climate change by destroying these precious ecosystems.

We have heard from planning professionals that there is other already cleared land that more than fulfils the housing need without clearing a mature native forest. Further, that thousands of approved DAs for housing are sitting waiting to be built in the Lower Hunter because there aren't the builders to build them.

We need your support now more than ever! We must prevent this forest from being rezoned for residential development. We must advocate for smart urban planning that doesn't steal remaining native forests but instead respects them as essential parts of our environment.

Join us in saving the Link Road Forest! Your signature can make all the difference in preserving this vital ecosystem for our children and their children into the future while combating climate change at its roots.
