Petition updateSave the Link Road Forest from Urban Sprawl in Newcastle

THANK YOU  - and One More Thing We Need You To Do

Thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign to protect the 574 hectare Link Road Forest on the edge of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.

Your support has helped build a stronger movement every year. Together, we've highlighted the forest's extraordinary value for wildlife, climate and community. Recent surveys have recorded more than 20 threatened species in the forest, including resident koalas, making its protection more important than ever.

We've held rallies, bushwalks, concerts and community events to spread the word and grow support. Newcastle council has recognised the importance of protecting this forest and its vital wildlife corridors and is determined to retain it. Lake Macquarie recently recognised its lands are a hotspot for koalas.

But the biggest challenge is still ahead.

The NSW Government is expected to publicly exhibit the rezoning proposal in the second half of 2026. Once released, the community will have only a short period - at least 28 days - to respond.

We need your help now to show Parliament that the community wants permanent protection for Link Road Forest.

Please:

• Sign the NSW Legislative Council ePetition if you are a resident of NSW.
• Share the ePetition with friends and family.

• Help collect signatures for the NSW Legislative Assembly paper petition, which already has more than 2,600 signatures.

If you'd like a paper petition to gather signatures for the Lower House in your community, email us at linkrdforest@gmail.com.

Together, we can protect Link Road Forest forever.
