Sign our ePetition to the Upper House (Legislative Council) if you live in NSW

Hi Everyone,

We have till midnight Friday 14 August '26 (tomorrow!) to get as many signatures as possible on the ePetition to the NSW Parliament Legislative Council .  Currently we have 9,370 and numbers are rising.  Wouldn't it be great if we got to 10,000+.  Even better if we reached 20,000 in one day, as it would be debated in parliament!  If you live in NSW and you are of any age, you can sign this petition.

There's so much we've learned about this 574 ha of mature native forest since we started the campaign back in 2020-21. This under-mined  land had coal. Three coal mining businesses/companies sold it on to each other till a developer decided it could be profitable and purchased the land. Underground the land is a mess of cavities while above the amazing forest stayed alive and regenerated. People continued to enjoy the space with cross country runs, state wide orienteering events, walking , birdwatching, photographing and trail riding.  The tree and ground living mammals and birds remained in the forest and flourished. Threatened species of microbats moved into the old mineshafts.  Recently koalas were observed on the property and more will be forced out of the adjoining  forest being clear-felled for housing.  This is an important corridor patch of quality forest for the koala, 3 pairs of nesting powerful owls and countless other species.

Unfortunately people don't know there are forces at work to destroy their leisure space and  of course the wildlife is unaware of the devastation to come.

The Awabakal Descendents Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation  "support the recommendation to save the Link Road Forest and protect it as publicly owned recreational park...".  Further "We advocate for an approach to land management that is neither passive nor destructive, but centred on care, reciprocity and responsibility. This approach continues millenia of Awabakal cultural connection and recognises that Country can recover when our people are supported to actively care for it".

There is much history in the mines under the forest themselves including sadness.  The Gretley mine disaster in 1996 occurred under this forest which saw 4 miners perish in a underground inundation.   This event ended all mining under the forest and it quietly had time to rest and recover.
