Save the Level 7 Solicitor Degree Apprenticeship

Save the Level 7 Solicitor Degree Apprenticeship
The Issue
As a current Level 3 Apprentice eager to progress to the transformative Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship programme upon completion, I am deeply concerned about the proposed government cuts to this essential initiative. The Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship has positively impacted countless lives, offering unparalleled opportunities for skill enhancement and career development within the legal profession.
The Labour Party, in its manifesto, has committed to providing “high-quality apprenticeships and specialist technical colleges” for UK students. However, these proposed budget cuts stand in stark contrast to such ambitious goals, jeopardising the future of legal apprenticeships at a time when they are more crucial than ever.
Many apprentices, including myself, have structured our career paths around this exceptional programme. The abrupt elimination of the Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship would not only disrupt our individual aspirations but also hinder the overall growth of the legal workforce
Importantly, around 22% of UK businesses have reported significant productivity improvements after implementing apprenticeship programmes (source: National Apprenticeship Service). Additionally, completers of these programmes have experienced an estimated 11% increase in wages (source: Department for Education), a success story that aligns with Labour’s vision for boosting economic opportunities in the legal sector
The government must continue to invest in these valuable programmes, nurturing future legal professionals rather than stifling their potential. This commitment would resonate with Labour’s pledge to “break down barriers” and ensure that every individual has access to quality education and training in law.
Preserving the Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship is vital for the future of our workforce. If you share this belief, please sign the petition and raise your voice in support of maintaining the Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship programme in the UK. Together, we can advocate for a brighter future for all legal apprentices.
