The Issue
The owners of internationally famous Southfork Ranch have reputedly contracted to sell the historical property to a developer who intends to scrape it and parcel it off to tract home builders. Are the owners in a hurry to get rid of an asset such as the ranch WITHOUT FIRST fully realizing the true legacy it represents to the City of Parker, Texas, the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and the Great State of Texas???? There are other profitable options that would preserve an international landmark, allow a sale, and preserve the legendary Southfork from the fate of tract homes. Help me get their attention!!!! I'm buried there for crying out loud!!!!!!!!
In 1978, the CBS TV Network took a chance on broadcasting a miniseries called "Dallas" about the schemes and struggles of a Texas family, my fictional family!!!. Five shows - that's all there were 44 years ago. But people loved it. So, CBS brought back the series and America and the world were hooked. If you are too young to remember, the show revolved around the fictional Ewings, an oil and ranching family with one foot in the modern business world, as exemplified by the high rises of downtown Dallas where they worked, and the other on Southfork Ranch, their home. At its peak, over 90 million Americans tuned in to watch the show each Friday night - that's three quarters of U.S. households with a television.
"Dallas" caught on because of the way it depicted Texas - a place with a "nothing is impossible, can-do attitude toward entrepreneurialism and life". The TV Show Dallas put the Dallas Fort Worth area and the State of Texas on the international map as a place to do business. That legacy continues today with the booming Texas global economy. Southfork Ranch today is a premier Texana tourist attraction, special events venue, and meeting destination surrounded by hundreds of acres of beautiful land in the City of Parker, a community founded on preserving country living.
Often called the "World's Most Famous Ranch" -- Southfork is to Dallas, as the Alamo is to San Antonio!
