The Issue

As a member of the Hispanic community, I have found a sense of acceptance and comfort within Latinos In Action, a club at our school. This club has offered a platform for Hispanic students like me to celebrate our culture, build leadership skills, and forge meaningful connections with peers who share similar backgrounds. In a time where cultural solidarity is more important than ever due to divisive narratives nationwide.

The State is wanting to get rid of LIA (Latinos In Action) due to the Civil Rights Act IV. They are trying to state that it is excluding other non latino students. This is incorrect Latinos In Action is open to any and all students of any Race, Ethnicity or Gender identity to join.

Our goal is to uplift the community and a huge part the community in DeLand is Hispanic helping our Latino members of our community will make a big change. The last census recorded in 2023 stated that in DeLand Hispanic/Latinos are the second largest Ethnic group. With 8.58k residents being recorded as Hispanic/Latino.

Please sign this petition to save Latinos In Action and help us continue to foster a community of acceptance, growth, and unity for future generations. Every signature counts towards making our voices heard and preserving a club that stands for the empowerment and success of Hispanic students and the broader school community. With the current state of our country it is very important to be united as a community. We need to act now.
