Save the Latin Program 2023-24!!!
The Issue
Magistra Sadlon is beginning a well deserved retirement after many years of teaching Latin to SSHS students. Magistra has given her heart and soul to the Latin program. Upon her retirement our school has decided not to hire another Latin teacher and end the Latin program. All of us Latin students have loved every minute of this course. We all feel that this class has truly allowed us to embrace the course moto Sumus Familia, meaning “We are Family.” We demand that our school make the Latin program a priority. Save the Latin program! By signing this petition you are agreeing that Latin is a valuable course and should be available for future generations of students.
“Latin has easily been my favorite class the past couple years. This class has taught me so much already about language. I have become so close with everyone in my class and have more respect for Magistra Sadlon and all the work she has done than I could express in words. Losing the Latin program feels like losing an old friend. I am truly heart broken at the thought of not being allowed to continue.”

”Taking Latin with Magistra Sadlon was the best decision I made in high school. Latin has become one of my passions. I have learned more about grammar, history, science, culture, and law just in Magistra Sadlon’s class than in any other class at SSHS. I’m now in my sophomore year of college where I’m planning to minor in Latin, and have been able to work at a more advanced level than my college classmates thanks to Magistra’s expert instruction. I am appalled at the high school’s decision and incredibly disappointed in the district as a whole for allowing this fantastic and valuable program to be ignored. You are doing your students an enormous disservice.”

“In Latin I have made friends and inside jokes and I don’t know what I would do without being able to make more. It’s been one of my favorite classes and I quite literally can’t imagine not having Latin next year.”

I learned more history, culture, art, and grammar from my time in Latin than any social studies or english course.
