Save the Koala's

Save the Koala's
The Issue
Koalas are the iconic animal of Australia and they are expected to go extinct in the wild by 2050. This is all of something we caused. Two words: CLIMATE CHANGE!
Koala's are necessary to the biodiversity that makes our one and only earth such a special place. They are crucial to the health of eucalyptus forests and even though koalas seem like they just sleep all day and don't help us at all they actually help carbon sequestration by maintaining the forests they live in since eucalyptus trees are very productive Carbon dioxide absorbers.
The best way to help these furry animals is to help the entire world. Getting rid of climate change. Sure that is not actually possible with humans always evolving but we can sure slow it down a lot. But what exactly is climate change you may ask. You have probably heard about it in conversations and know that it always brings doom and gloom but don't know much beyond that. Well the dictionary definition is "a long-term change in the earth's climate, especially a change due to an increase in the average atmospheric temperature"(dictionary.com). But what does this give you? I am not an expert but it is definitely not a good thing and yet the leaders of the world are not taking drastic action even though that is what is needed. They meet at sumits and discuss their goals but they never do much. Sure in some places, the government has banned plastic straws but what we need to do is much bigger than that. Koalas need better than that, we need better than that! Climate change is already one of the biggest threats to our world today. Take the LA wildfires, what caused that? the warming temperatures and strong winds. AKA Climate Change. Many if not all of the extreme weather patterns that happen in our world today are because of climate change.
Ways we can help Koala's:
1. Protect and Restore Koala Habitats:
~Preserve Eucalyptus Forests: Koalas rely heavily on eucalyptus trees for food and shelter. Protecting and restoring eucalyptus forests is critical. Governments and environmental organizations should prioritize conserving areas that are essential to koalas. ~Rehabilitate Burned and Damaged Areas: In the wake of devastating wildfires, like those seen in Australia in recent years, efforts to restore koala habitats must be a priority. This includes replanting eucalyptus trees and preventing further deforestation.
2. Combat Climate Change:
~Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Climate change is a significant factor contributing to the koala's plight. Governments must act urgently to reduce carbon emissions and commit to renewable energy solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change. ~ Around Your House: you can do many things to help without leaving your house and spending little to no money. For example, turn of lights and electronic devices when not in use or walk, bike or take the train to minimize your carbon emissions. You can also do things such as composting and doing simple things such as fully loading the dishwasher so as to conserve water usage.
The Koala's need your help to brave the mess we, as a human race have started!
