The John A. Sibley Horticultural Center (named in honor of conservation advocate, trustee, and friend of the Callaway family, John A. Sibley) is slated for permanent closure this month. Completed in March 1984, this approx 52000 sq/ft facility - originally funded entirely by private donors, houses both a production greenhouse and a sprawling garden which extends throughout the 5 acre grounds.

Through Callaway Gardens' educational, research, and internship program initiatives this one-of-a-kind facility has had a profound impact in not only the southeast - but nationally and even internationally as well. The Sibley Center has long been considered one of the nation's top display conservatories, as well.

Callaway Gardens once promoted this facility as "one of the most advanced garden/greenhouse complexes in the world". Following a $3.5M refresh in 2003, that statement still holds true.

Surely, Callaway Gardens and the Ida Cason Callaway Foundation can find a way to continue operating the Sibley Center, perhaps the same way it was constructed - through donations.
