The Issue

The Fanshawe Student Union is shutting down The Interrobang after more than 50 years of publication.

The loss of this long-standing student voice in the Fanshawe/London community is a huge setback in a time when independent journalism is more important than ever. Since its inception, The Interrobang has been:

  • Helping to hold both the college and FSU accountable
  • Giving students a platform to share their success stories
  • Keeping students and community members up to date with local news
  • Giving students opportunities to gain professional experience in journalism and graphic design

The FSU President has confirmed (on record) that this has nothing to do with the budget, no money will be saved by cutting The Interrobang, and the Board of Directors made this decision without student input.

We want everyone to have a voice in this.

We would like to see a referendum to give The Interrobang its own levy – about $2 per student– so it can operate using its own designated budget which is not tied to the FSU’s base operating budget. This will involve gathering signatures from full-time students, which we will be working to collect in the coming weeks on campus, or you can sign online: https://forms.gle/cFKwjAydb6nLs8R76

If you are not a current full-time student, you can show your support here. Hopefully it will send a message to the FSU that people care. Whether you’re one of our alumni, a part-time student, or a community member who supports student journalism—together we can save this iconic piece of Fanshawe’s history and continue giving students a voice on campus!
