The Issue

My name is Georgette Redmond, and like so many alumni, my life was shaped by Immaculate Conception Cathedral School. For over 100 years, this school has been more than classrooms, but a cornerstone of our community, a place of learning, friendship, and shared history that connects generations. Now, this historic institution faces demolition, primarily to make room for additional parking. For thousands of students, teachers, and families, these buildings are more than bricks and mortar but are a home, a heritage, and a symbol of unity for the Memphis community. Losing them would erase a piece of our past and break a connection that has lasted for generations. We, the alumni and community members, urge decision-makers to explore alternatives that preserve this beloved school. Options like adaptive reuse, phased rehabilitation, or heritage designation can honor its legacy while meeting modern needs. Across the country, communities have successfully revitalized historic schools without demolition—and we can do the same here! Join us. Make your voice heard. Sign this petition to protect Immaculate Conception Cathedral School and ensure that future generations can experience the same education, community, and history that shaped us all.
