Clemson Tiger Platoon
Nov 28, 2016
Since our last update, this effort has continued to grow!
Over the last couple of months, we have expanded our proposed plan to also include a memorial to Clemson House on-site at the future Barber Shop. As of now, we have been told that Clemson has no plans to honor the Clemson House once it is torn down. With this being said, we are hoping to honor the legacy of this place that has meant so much to Clemson with a memorial, and we feel that it is only appropriate to showcase this at the new barber shop. Our plan is for the Clemson House Memorial to include artifacts collected from Clemson House, a Clemson House Wall of Fame of notable guests and tenants, and many pictures, among other things.
Furthermore, we plan on presenting our complete plan to the Clemson University Division of Student Affairs at the beginning of the Spring 2017 semester, on behalf of all groups and individuals involved.
On a slightly different note, we are sad to inform you that Mr. Dennis Laye recently passed away. Dennis, whose father started the Clemson House Barber Shop in 1950, eventually took over the shop and ran it for 48 years. Those that knew Dennis regard him as an iconic figure at Clemson over the past 60 years, and we hope that we will be able to carry on the great legacy that he left with the Barber Shop.
Finally, on behalf of Tiger Platoon and everyone else involved in this effort, we have been amazed at the amount of support that this effort has received from our Clemson Family, including each of you. If you have any questions, or would like to be involved with this, please contact us at platoon@g.clemson.edu. Thank you all for your support and Go Tigers!
