The Issue

The Clemson House Barber Shop has been giving haircuts to Clemson students for over 65 years. Since Clemson House was built in 1950, the barber shop has been as essential to Clemson House as anything. Though they are known for the quality haircuts they give at very reasonable prices, they are much more than just a barber shop. The Clemson House Barber Shop and their patrons are a family, consisting of Clemson students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the greater Clemson community. The barbers, led by Joe Tankersley, a retired principal and school board chairman, focus on building relationships with their patrons, and today their clientele is as strong as ever.

Recently, the Clemson House Barber Shop was informed by Clemson University that once Clemson House is torn down, the barber shop will no longer have a space reserved for them on campus. The Clemson House Barber Shop and many of their patrons have been working to make their case to Clemson University's Division of Student Affairs on why the barber shop is such an integral piece of our Clemson Family. However, STUDENTS are now needed to convince our administration that the Clemson House Barber Shop must remain at Clemson. Family takes care of family, and we believe that it is our duty as members of the Clemson Family to take care of the Clemson House Barber Shop, a special and historic aspect of our family.

By signing this petition you are doing your part to help save the Clemson House Barber Shop by helping them obtain a space on campus to do what they have done for over 65 years: to serve our Clemson Family and help make it even stronger.
