Dear friends,

Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply to my last update. I’ve read all your messages, and a very clear picture has emerged.

There is deep affection for The Iain Anderson Show — not just for the music, but for the depth, context, calmness, and respect it brought to late-night radio. Many of you spoke about the importance of discovery, cultural understanding, and Iain’s gentle presence at the end of the day.

There is also widespread disappointment with the BBC’s decision and response. Most feel the decision has been made and is unlikely to be reversed in the short term, and that listener concerns have been dismissed.

Almost everyone who sampled the replacement programme did so briefly and then stopped listening. It is widely seen as bland, over-chatty, mainstream, and lacking the depth and cultural context that defined Iain’s show. Several people told me they no longer listen to Radio Scotland in that slot at all.

As for what happens next, three themes recur:
• Holding the BBC to account through audience figures, complaints, and media attention
• Strong support for following and supporting Iain Anderson if he reappears on another platform
• Interest in longer-term independent spaces for Scottish and independent music

In short, people don’t want this to be quietly forgotten.

More soon.

With thanks,
Norman
