The Horseshoe Crab, an ancient prehistoric animal dating back to the dinosaurs, needs your help. A sensitive creature, they are related to arachinids and even lobsters. Excellent navigators, they have a quiet, and solitary personality. A fun fact about them, is that they glow in the dark, and have a brilliant blue colored blood that is copper based. 

For years, however, they have been used in biomedicine and fishing. In biomedicine, people take them into laboratories in huge numbers and extract their blood. This is used to make special vaccines that treat conditions such as Melanoma (cancer) and migraines in humans. In fishing, they have frequently been used as bait. Their bodies, when injured and near death, returned to the shoreline.

Their use in biomedicine is not only unethical, not needed. It's wrong to harm this innoncent life form, furthermore it's not been proven what positive effect they can have on people. In any situation of testing, it's always better to work with the original species itself, like people for instance. For, they will give the greater and more accurate results. In fact, the consequences of using such animals for research purposes as this may be worse in the long run. It's unethical to use them in fishing also, when their lives are endangered in such a brutalized way. 

I'm asking that all biomedical testing of these animals be stopped, and their use in medicine. Furthermore, that they be left alone to live out their lives in the waters, free from the harm of fishers and fisheries. They do the earth a great service by their long lived existence, and work to maintain the delicate web of life. To remove them, is to remove our waters and other animal to plant species. They are necessary and vital here.
