Save the Homecoming Dance!

The Issue

As a senior, Freshman year was the only year we have been able to attend a Canandaigua Academy homecoming dance. The tradition was broken to punish people who have already graduated and moved on. Now, we are the ones left being punished for their immaturity. Homecoming has always been a tradition for students and teachers alike and since it has left our community, school morale has only dropped lower. This has only grown more evident with the lack of participation in spirit weeks, lipsyncs, fundraisers, etc.

We understand and acknowledge the reasons behind the cancellation of the previous homecoming(s) but propose a solution relying on individual punishment for violation of dance contracts, instead of punishing the majority. Some examples of punishment could consist of verbal warnings to the expiration of the contract and no admittance to future events.

We also understand that dances can provide a fundraising profit for Canandaigua Academy and have noticed the price increase for dances in the last few years. Our solution is to divide and conquer. By raising the number of events we could decrease the price of each without impacting the gross income that the school receives.

The time to act is now. We want a Homecoming dance experience to remember. A place to share joy with each other at the beginning of the school year to give us an optimistic look towards the future. Sign to Save Homecoming.

Thank you
