Petition Update: We Need Your Voices—Again In April, 2,600 of you signed the petition opposing the closure of the trail through Mount Ogden Golf Course. That outpouring of support mattered. It led to a huge turnout at the following City Council meeting and forced city leadership to acknowledge that this trail is important to the community. At the time, the City justified the closure on “safety concerns,” citing a letter from an insurance risk assessor that the City itself solicited. Many of us questioned both the timing and the transparency of that process. After the public response, the Mayor’s office and staff repeatedly indicated they wanted to work collaboratively with trail users to re-establish access. Unfortunately, since then, the City’s actions have moved in the opposite direction. A poorly designed and badly executed survey was rolled out with little notice, limited outreach, and highly questionable methodology. Despite widespread concerns about how the survey was conducted—and whether it accurately represents the community—the Mayor has now published both a podcast and a newspaper article claiming there is broad community support for keeping the trail closed in favor of the golf course. Many of us simply do not recognize our community in those conclusions. This isn’t just about one trail anymore. It’s about:     •    A closure rolled out without meaningful public process     •    Selective use of data to support a predetermined outcome     •    A lack of transparency and accountability     •    Public assurances of collaboration that have not been honored What We’re Asking You to Do Now If you signed this petition, your voice still matters—and it’s needed again.     1.    Email the Mayor and City Council     •    Be respectful but firm.     •    Ask for:     •    Full transparency on the survey design, distribution, and raw results     •    An honest acknowledgment of the survey’s limitations     •    A real, good-faith process to restore trail access     •    Public accountability for how this closure was decided and communicated     2.    Show up to the City Council Meeting January 6, 2026 Ogden City Council Meeting A strong, visible turnout matters. This meeting is an opportunity to:     •    Make it clear that questionable data does not equal community consent     •    Reassert that public lands and trails deserve honest, transparent decision-making We are not asking for special treatment. We are asking for truth and transparency. Please stand with us—again.
