Petition updateSave the Hellfire & Massy's Wood#GE2020 Dublin South West Candidates
Save the Hellfire
Feb 7, 2020

We asked all #GE2020 candidates for the Dublin South West area (on Twitter) to confirm where they stood re €22m development at the Hellfire and Massy's Wood?

To date we have received a response from:
Deputy Katherine Zappone (Independent) - I support the @SavetheHellfire Campaign in calling for an urgent review of the proposed #DublinMountainVisitorCentre to ensure that the scale of any development for the purposes of attracting tourism is balanced against the importance of maintaining the integrity of this beautiful landscape and protecting a unique and fragile ecosystem. Above all, I support @EdgeIndependent in his call for campaigners to be given a right to reply to the further information submitted to An Bord Pleanála.

Cllr. Carly Bailey (Social Democrats)
We published our Biodiversity Policy yesterday & I firmly believe that any works at the Hellfire must protect and enhance the biodiversity of the hill and surrounds. https://www.socialdemocrats.ie/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Biodiversity.pdf Plans for this were lodged before my time in the Council & are currently in front of An Bord Pleanála. I am concerned at the proposed development in terms of its environmental impact and await the response from ABP before deciding on any future course of action.

Deputy Colm Brophy (Fine Gael)
Against the proposal re Traffic concerns.

Ciarán Ahern (Labour Party)
We need a complete re-think on biodiversity in Dublin South West.I strongly oppose the unwanted commercialisation and exploitation of the Hellfire Club and @sdublincoco must consider biodiversity in everything it does. No more wetlands disasters! #GE2020

Cllr. Francis Noel Duffy (Green Party)
In favour as long as its 'sustainable'.

Deputy John Lahart (Fianna Fáil)
In favour

Deputy Paul Murphy (RISE)
Happy to support the @Savethehellfire campaign and oppose the proposed over-development of the area.

Philip Dwyer (National Party)
I strongly favour the preservation of Ireland's precious and beautiful natural landscape and therefore oppose this costly, brutalist development which is completely at odds with nature and an attempt to commercialise the Hellfire Club.
