Save the heart of the Con: Update
Dear families, alumni, educators, students, and community supporters,
I am truly humbled by the incredible support shown for this important cause. Thank you for adding your voice by signing the petition and helping raise awareness in the community. Your encouragement and commitment are deeply appreciated.
I wish to share a positive update.
On 19 August 2026, the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music was awarded the 2026 Art Music Award for Excellence in Music Education for its Music in Schools Program at the Art Music Awards presented by APRA AMCOS and the Australian Music Centre.
This prestigious recognition highlights the significant impact that music education has on students, schools, families, and the wider community.
As a parent, I would like to acknowledge and thank David Rooney and Jenny Cook, whose vision and leadership helped establish and develop the Music in Schools Program. Through their dedication, countless public school students have had opportunities to learn, perform, and grow through music. Families have enjoyed seeing young musicians develop their skills and confidence, culminating in high-quality performances at school events and community venues, including the recent end-of-Term 2 Eisteddfod at St Mary of the Sea.
I would also like to congratulate and thank Mark, Mel, and Janet for their contributions to this award-winning program. This recognition reflects years of commitment, expertise, and passion for music education. The community is grateful for your work and celebrates this well-deserved achievement.
If you would like to acknowledge the contribution of those involved in the Music in Schools Program, you may wish to share a message of congratulations with the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music:
