The Town Of Liberty Grove is considering demolishing the iconic old, commercial fishing sheds in Gills Rock. These buildings help define the character of Gills Rock and also Door County. Yes, they are not pretty, yes they need work................ But if those walls could only talk they could tell story after story of the challenges and life and death struggles of our early ancestors pioneering a unique way of life. As Door County transitions to God knows what it is so important to save these vestiges of our past. There are many possible uses for these buildings but first and foremost would be to move the existing Maritime Museum down into these buildings that gave a reason for the museum to even exist in the first place. Other examples are leasing them to artists for studios or other uniques entities that can conserve our heritage. Please sign or at least reach out to the Liberty Grove Town Board, once these buildings are gone they are gone forever.
