South Staffordshire NHS Trust have now confirmed that the future of the George Bryan Centre in Tamworth is ‘under consideration’. If this centre closes anyone needing inpatient assessment care for their mental health issues in Burton, Lichfield, Tamworth and the surrounding areas will have no choice but to go to the Stafford area.

Tamworth is a growing town, one which has seen health services slowly dwindling over time. At a time where the government has recently laid out plans for significant increases to mental health funding over the next 4 years, it is unthinkable that the trust could even consider closing this unit! The South Staffordshire community simply cannot afford to lose yet another valuable local health service.
