Save the Forest of Fear!
The Issue
To whomever it may concern:
We, alumni of Saint Gregory the Great School along with our close friends and family, understand the dispute over The Forest of Fear is much bigger than what we know. All we ask is that you consider our opinions. We believe that The Forest of Fear deserves to be fought for. There are numerous reason to fight for it but we are here to offer our perspective.
Many of us were children when this began, including myself. I remember being nervous, like it was some roller coaster. All my friends would walk through the Scary Hour but I couldn't. Eventually, my cousins, little brothers, and entire family went through it. Still, I wouldn't budge. At the Forest of Fear's third or fourth time, I went in, and I ran away. That would be my last year of backing down.
When I faced my fear, I was in eighth grade. My friends had to drag me in. That hour was one of the most memorable experiences of my time at St. Gregory's. Every jump scare was a shared experience with my friends. We would all cling to each other and brace for next turn.
Every single name you see on this list belongs to someone who shared this same experience. We were children when the Forest of Fear started. We have grown with it beside us. We have enjoyed watching younger students, siblings, and even friends go through the same experiences. They deserve the memories we had and we deserve to relive our memories through them. Getting rid of it will take that chance away from them.
Now, many of us volunteer as actors in The Forest of Fear. It's important not just for our own nostalgia, but for our high school careers, as many of our curriculums require volunteer hours. The Forest of Fear gives us this opportunity as well as an avenue to remember our years at the school. It gives us time to reconnect with our peers. Our time at Saint Gregory the Great School lives on in The Forest of fear.
Maybe this doesn't need to be the end of the Forest of Fear but the start of something new. The school has a large property. Maybe it could be simply moved or made into something else. Whatever it is, please consider our opinions. We really appreciate all that you have done in its defense, we merely ask that you not give up. Thank you.
All we ask of you is to listen to our opinion and consider finding some alternate solution than shutting down the Forest of Fear. We have made a petition to show how much we value this. We would like our petition to be shown to those who complained and we want to share to them the following. To those who complain, Your actions affect hundreds. You are taking this tradition away from our community.
Thank you for consideration,
An Alumnus.
