On Tuesday, May 6th, 2025, the Jackson County Commissioners discussed in a work session meeting, without public input, removing the Jackson County Library from the Fontana Regional system which would directly affect funding and resource access for all of the 6 libraries in Jackson, Macon, and Swain counties.

This is just the latest effort to dismantle the FRL system, which has been under attack for four years from a small, special interest group that does not represent the majority of voters and residents of the three counties affected.

This would negatively impact all citizens of Jackson, Macon, and Swain counties and lead to increased cost and decreased access to media and services.The Jackson County commissioners as well as the Macon and Swain commissioners should know the undersigned citizens of Jackson, Macon, and Swain Counties, want to preserve the Fontana Regional Library System and not allow for the removal of any library from the FRL system. We want these county commissioners to commit to remaining in the Fontana Regional Library System.
