As a proud gay man, I have marched, campaigned, and fought tirelessly for recognition, equality, and inclusion in my beloved country. I co-founded the first pride movement in County Wicklow with the purpose of advocating for those who feel they don’t have a voice or can’t use it, to inspire them to stand up and be counted. My goal is to make our communities safe and accepting for all, especially for the younger generation. I am a proud activist and will always strive to fight for my community. 

The First Permanent Pride Rainbow Crossing in the Republic of Ireland stands as a symbol of hope and inclusion. It is a beacon of acceptance that inspired many other towns and cities to publicly declare their support for the LGBTQIA+ community. Amid a rise in hate and hostility both nationally and globally, this crossing represents more than just vibrant colours on concrete—it is a declaration that love and acceptance will prevail.

Currently, there is an alarming attempt to quietly erase our visibility and rights. We are witnessing a rise in right-wing politics and hate. This crossing faces the threat of removal, a quiet and symbolic erosion of our accomplishments. But we cannot let hate take control of our country. We must stand united to preserve what this crossing represents.

Imagine a world where young LGBTQIA+ individuals cannot see a future that includes them, where visibility and acceptance are snuffed out by intolerance. This is not the future we want for Ireland or our world. We must preserve the First Permanent Pride Rainbow Crossing as a testament to our journey and a promise to continue the fight against discrimination and inequality.
