The expression tunnels at app state have served as a small venue for students to express themselves freely. They were inspired by the tunnels at NC State, and help to decrease graffiti across the campus. 

Recently the app state administration has decided to paint over them and install cameras inside so that students may no longer paint; they also want to keep the area police patrolled. They claim that it will serve to make the tunnels safer and increase mountaineer pride, but this change will only serve to widen that gap between the student body and the administration, and decrease student moral. 

Students that walk through these tunnels to go to class or to meals will have to walk through the cameras and by these police officers every day, and this will not only create an authoritarian air around the tunnels, but for students with anxiety it will make it difficult to take these passageways. 

We have a responsibility to protect these tunnels for our pride, for our welfare, and because it is the right thing to do. Sign this petition if you agree.
