It is profoundly personal to me to fight for the survival of the Sumatran orangutan. This magnificent creature, intrinsic to our ecosystem, faces the constant threat of extinction. Human activities like logging, palm oil plantations, and illegal pet trade have wiped out more than 80% of their habitats in the past 20 years. Today, the population of Sumatran orangutan counts less than 14,000 (according to World Wildlife Fund data). This leaves them incredibly vulnerable, placed on the critically endangered list by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. We need to fight back, for them, and for us. They have a vital role in seed dispersal which maintains the health of the rainforest ecosystems. It's important we act now to implement stronger protective laws, enforce existing rules, and support conservation work. By saving them, we save our planet.
