The Garden is one of the only publically accessible green spaces in a large part of Manhattan. As development has intensified, the need for green, open space has become even more pronounced, while there are no potential sites for new open spaces. The combination of 20,000 square feet of curated private/public community garden, with educational and cultural aspects, makes the Elizabeth Street Garden the only environment of its kind in the world.
