Good Friday Evening!

A quick update on our efforts to stop the Rea Road Gillespie Property Rezoning.

So far more than 8,700 people have signed this petition.

During the last several weeks your neighbors have worked tirelessly bringing awareness to the plight of our two Bald Eagles and their ever-growing eaglets, as well as how devastating this proposed development would be to nature, the Four Mile Creek Greenway and property values.

Thanks to you and your signature, this petition has also gained the attention of television news stations WSOC, WBTV, WJZY, as well as Axios News and WFAE Charlotte’s NPR Radio Affiliate. This would not have happened without your help.

Increased Traffic - Charlotte DOT estimates show this rezoning and proposed development will add an additional 4,970 vehicle movements daily to Rea Road based on the property being a senior 55+ adult complex.

NC DOT records currently show Rea Road with 26,000 daily vehicle movements (likely higher) which would mean the addition of another 4,970 cars would be a 20% increase to the daily average traffic count putting it at over 30,000 cars on average each day!

We’d like to reach 10,000 signatures before we present a printed version of this petition to the Mayor and Charlotte City Council please continue to share this petition.

The Rea Road Neighborhood Coalition and Piper Glen Community have extended an open invitation to Charlotte City Council to come out to Piper Glen, see the eagles, visit the Four Mile Creek Greenway, and see how much people enjoy the wildlife, the forest, and the wetlands and then imagine this part of Rea Road without this the last large parcel of undeveloped land inside I-485.

We believe if they witness firsthand what this proposed project will destroy, the amount of traffic it will create and the extreme burden it will place on the already overstressed infrastructure. they will be able to obtain a greater understanding of the area and why this project is a terrible idea.

Thank You for your continued support!
