The Issue

On April 26, 2024, a major leak at Walt Disney Television Studios revealed basically every pitch bible and animated pilot that Disney has ever gotten in the last 20 years. And it was through this leak that we learned of a great crime committed by their hands.

We all remember the 2017 Ducktales series, in which Matt Youngberg, Francisco Angones, and so many others breathed new life into a classic Disney Afternoon TV Series. It was a perfect balance of classic material being represented and new material being brought to life. By many, it was seen as a perfect example of what a reboot should be. And they had plans to do it again with Darkwing Duck, which they PROVED they could do with a special Darkwing Duck themed special episode of Ducktales.

The pitch Bible showed all of the incredible things that they had planned. Gosalyn, Drake, and Launchpad struggling with their own personal issues and differences to make their newfound family dynamic work! Negaduck being the main antagonist with both old villains like Quackerjack and the Liquidator and even Mark Beaks and new villains like The Night Mayor and Quick Buck! An actually COMPETENT Muddlefoot family where Mr. Muddlefoot would’ve been the police chief style detective to Darkwing’s vigilante! Gosalyn and Honker in a school dynamic where everyone is secretly linked to a hero or villain or is at least affected by something like that including a full grown lizard man in a cheap disguise who wants to be one of the cool kids and Megavolt’s son who has a crush on Gosalyn! Launchpad calling himself WINGWING! In the words of a tiny green alien, it could’ve been great!

But Disney decided that that wasn’t good enough. That instead of building upon the beautiful universe that they knew that audience’s had connected with and that people had worked tirelessly on to make as good as Ducktales was, they should just take a random reboot idea from Seth Rogen instead. You know what we got the last time Seth Rogen touched the Disney Afternoon?

Yeah, I’ll let you do with that as you will.

For years, this potential gemstone of a series had been quietly tossed out and locked away from out viewing eyes. But now, because of these leaks, it’s back out there again. We know it’s here now. We know its potential. And we have another chance to fight for it now.

By signing this petition, spreading it around where you can whether it’s a friend or social media site, maybe spamming a hashtag or two, ANYTHING you wanna do to show Disney that we not only see this series, but that we WANT this series, we can give Darkwing and his family another fighting chance to come out on top! I know it may seem like it’s foolhardy and a losing battle, but what battle worth fighting for isn’t? Plus, Kim Possible was brought back for it’s fourth and final season thanks to a campaign exactly like this one by fans who cared like heck. Not only does that mean that DTVA actually listen sometimes, but it means that, most importantly, despite the odds against our favor: IT CAN BE DONE.

And at the end of the day, isn’t that the message of both series? That no matter dangerous, how insane, how insurmountably impossible on obstacle might seem to be, as long as you have a group of people- a family- to fight for what you believe in with, you can always beat the odds and save the day?

All this family wants to do is solve some mysteries. Let’s show Disney that when a fandom or a family comes together, they can rewrite history.
