Save the Department of Education—Our Kids' Future Depends on It

The Issue

President Trump is trying to shut down the U.S. Department of Education, and if he succeeds, our children, our teachers, and our schools will feel the impact. This department isn’t some bureaucratic waste—it protects our kids’ rights, ensures schools in low-income communities get the funding they need, and helps millions of Americans afford college. Without it, many of these protections and programs could fall apart. We have to stop that from happening.

Education isn’t just a state issue. Federal oversight ensures that kids with disabilities get the support they deserve, that struggling schools aren’t left behind, and that colleges don’t take advantage of students drowning in debt. The Department of Education isn’t about controlling what kids learn—it’s about making sure our children have an equal shot at success, no matter where they live or how much money their families make.

If the department is dismantled, programs that help our students, teachers, and families won’t just disappear overnight, but they’ll be thrown into chaos. Financial aid, protections for students with disabilities, and resources for underfunded schools could get shuffled to other agencies, leading to confusion, delays, and cuts. And the ones who will suffer the most? Our kids.

We can’t let this happen. Congress has the power to stop it, but they need to hear from us. The Department of Education was created for a reason—to make sure every child gets a fair chance. Let’s not let politics take that away. Sign this petition and tell Congress to protect our children, our teachers, and our schools. Our future depends on it.
