Save the Demountables at Oak Flats High School

Save the Demountables at Oak Flats High School
The issue
The Department of Education NSW have made the decision that four of the six Demountables at Oak Flats High School will be removed at the end of this school year, 2022.
These six Demountable classrooms are used for the Jamberoo Unit, a support unit used by students with diagnosed learning disabilities, such as Autism and Emotional Disturbance.
The Jamberoo Unit was established in 2011 when the Department of Education agreed that these students needed a dedicated area within the school.
These students are the most vulnerable and educationally disadvantaged students in the school. Each one has specific learning support needs, and these needs may vary greatly.
The Department of Education have made the decision once the Demountable classrooms are removed, the seven support classes will be moved to various points scattered around the school instead of the one location/hub they currently have. Displacing and unsettling 49 current students and staff.
This decision to remove the four Demountable classrooms impacts not only current students but also future students of the area with diagnosed learning needs.
We as parents and a Community object to the removal of any Demountables from Oak Flats High School.
Help us Save the Demountables by signing this petition and have the Department of Education overturn their decision to remove the four Demountables from Oak Flats High School.
