For 69 years, Cyprus Airways was more than just our State Airline; it was a bridge connecting us to the world. For over 50 years, the iconic Trident 5B-DAB has stood silent and decaying at the abandoned Nicosia International Airport. As a former Flight Attendant and curator of the Cyprus Airways historical archive and exhibition, I cannot watch this iconic piece of our history turn into scrap metal. As someone who lived and cherished this shared journey, I refuse to let this "Common Horizon" fade into obscurity.
Save the only remaining Trident Aircraft left to rot after 50+ years. An initiative is ongoing towards the UN for permission to start imminent restoration.
A Call to Action for our Shared History.
The Plan: "Trident: The Common Horizon"
We have a fully developed, professional plan ready for execution. We are not just asking for a cleanup; we are proposing a Physical and Digital Living Museum for all Cypriots. Our initiative, is ready for submission to the United Nations (UNFICYP) includes:
• Immediate Rescue: Deep cleaning and hermetic sealing of the airframe to stop corrosion.
• Restoration: Repainting the exterior in its original, proud 1974 livery.
• A Bicommunal Museum: Converting the cabin into an exhibit space with glass display cases for original uniforms and documents (recovered with UN permission), and interactive touch-screens for oral histories.
• Access for All: A secure, shared mini-bus protocol to bring students, researchers, and citizens from both communities to this shared landmark.
