The skate park on south green (better known as The Courts) was entirely built and funded by the Ohio University Skate Club. Currently they are being threatened to be removed by campus officials due to a grey area in the school policies, (Policy 01.044). We need your support to show the school that The Courts benefit the school and community more than anything else that could go on there.

     The rules also state that there can be one-time exceptions to spaces like The Courts (Policy 01.003), and that is what we’re attempting to meet with the school to try to get done. We have reached out to several school faculty members, and our only response was no. We just want a fair chance for the school to see what we do and hear what we have to say.

     We wanted to provide a safe space for students and Athens community members alike to skate and connect with people like themselves. The Courts are a free chance for students to express themselves and have fun, something not found often on campus. They are always maintained, aesthetically and structurally. This is a tradition that has been going on for at least 10 years to my knowledge, (definitely longer) and now the school is suddenly trying to take it away. Please sign to help us preserve a safe space for students who don’t find fun in frat parties or bars, and want a place where they can be themselves.
