The Issue

For nearly seven decades, The Cookie Jar bakery has been a cherished part of Cape Elizabeth’s community, serving delicious baked goods and providing a warm, welcoming space for both locals and visitors. Owned by Donna and Tom Piscopo, The Cookie Jar is more than just a bakery—it’s a piece of our town’s history and an important gathering spot for generations of families.

Now, the Cookie Jar is under threat. The Cape Elizabeth Planning Board is pushing to eliminate the bakery’s four front parking spaces, which are critical for customer access. Without these parking spaces, the bakery may no longer be able to operate.

This isn't the first time the Cookie Jar has faced this challenge. In 2022, public outcry temporarily halted the Planning Board's efforts. However, the issue has resurfaced, and the future of the Cookie Jar hangs in the balance once again.

We are calling on the Town Council to intervene and protect the Cookie Jar and other small businesses in Cape Elizabeth. This family-owned bakery has been a cornerstone of our community for decades, and its closure would be a tremendous loss for our town. The Planning Board’s repeated attempts to target small businesses, like the Cookie Jar and The Lumbery, must stop.

By signing this petition, you are standing with Donna and Tom Piscopo and supporting the preservation of Cape Elizabeth’s small businesses. We urge the Town Council to prevent the removal of the Cookie Jar’s front parking spaces and find a permanent solution that allows this beloved bakery to continue serving our community for generations to come.

Please sign this petition to show your support for the Cookie Jar Bakery and the fight to protect small businesses in Cape Elizabeth.
