Thank you all for the support, the petition is growing fast because of everyone's effort in sharing it.

We have sent the letter below to all MSPs, Scottish Ministers and Creative Scotland. We are hoping to get a response soon and we will update everyone as soon as we receive this.

Please keep sharing the petition so we can put more pressure in stopping the CCA's closure.

Our Letter

We are writing on behalf of Save the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) petition, and at the time of writing it has been signed by over 1000 members of the CCA's community and is growing fast.

We call on Creative Scotland and the Scottish Government to immediately intervene to save the CCA, an organisation deeply loved by thousands in Scotland and internationally, and one that has supported an innumerable number of artists, cultural practitioners, organisations and communities for decades.

The loss of the CCA would leave a lasting scar on Scotland's cultural ecosystem, one that would take years to heal. The decision to permanently close the CCA would also seriously damage trust and faith in the idea that community voices are heard, valued and acted upon.

The decision to place the CCA into liquidation was made by a Board of only two people without informing staff nor seeking support from the community or exploring collective solutions to save the organisation before moving towards closure.

This decision came as a profound shock to the arts and cultural sector and to our wider communities. Decisions that impact the livelihoods and futures of so many people, young people and those who are the most under-represented and marginalised in society, should not be made by only a small number of individuals. The CCA is far more than a legal entity; it represents the history of Scotland's art and cultural heritage and encases the memories of multiple generations. This should not be taken away from our communities.

We have read Creative Scotland's statement confirming they have pulled CCA's funding which was already granted from 2025-28. They also expressed an intention to reopen the building in the future, therefore we ask: why close the CCA in the first place? Why can every effort not be made now to save an existing, living cultural space and resource? Replacing it with a new structure will never be the same because a building without its people, history and soul cannot replace the CCA.

At a time when Sauchiehall Street is struggling to survive, significant public funding is being directed toward its regeneration because of its cultural importance to Glasgow. Allowing the CCA to collapse directly contradicts this aim. Public funds are regularly invested to support private and commercial businesses on the street to survive, surely an arts and cultural institution that has served the public for decades deserves the same commitment and investment.

We have recently witnessed Creative Scotland and the Scottish Government intervene in response to threats of cultural funding cuts in the Western Isles. We now ask for that same courage and leadership to protect Glasgow's art heritage, history, workers, artists and communities, all connected and anchored to the CCA.

We, the petition signatories, and the thousands more in our communities who share this call, urge you to immediately instruct the CCA Board to halt the liquidation process, provide emergency support, and reinstate staff so that the CCA can reopen and begin rebuilding.

It is in the public interest to prevent mass unemployment. It is in the public interest to maintain spaces for art and culture. It is in the public interest to preserve organisations like the CCA, and to support this powerful, collective community effort rooted in solidarity, care, and love for Glasgow and its cultural life.

We recognise that the CCA faces serious challenges. However, we firmly believe that our communities, artists, and cultural workers are committed, capable and ready to support the organisation through a period of recovery. If Creative Scotland and the Scottish Government take this vital step toward resolving this crisis, it will send a powerful and positive message about how public bodies really listen to and act upon the voices of the public.

We look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible and to sharing your response to this call with our communities and the wider arts sector.

Yours sincerely,
Save the CCA Petition
