Save The Central Ontario Wolves AAA
The Issue
This petition is published on behalf of the players and the community.
Central Ontario Wolves AAA
CommunityThe OMHA AAA Committee has decided that to get to 10 teams in the East, the Central Ontario Wolves Zone will be "dissolved in time for the 2024-25 season". They have made this motion for the OMHA November board meeting. While this is not yet official, the Board's ratification of this motion is merely a formality. There was/is no formal opportunity for input from our board members.
Paul Allan, OMHA Director for Region 3 - Area F, and the Chair of the OMHA's AAA Committee advised COWHA that it is simply a matter of logistics and geography.
It is the OMHA AAA Committee's opinion that this decision will strengthen the remaining 10 teams in the OMHA AAA East, as well as COW's 9 Home Centres. THE COMMUNITY DOES NOT AGREE, and we should be afforded the opportunity to have our voices heard.
32 years of hockey tradition will come to an end this season based on a political decision and without the opportunity for the community to comment.
Community Hockey should have a community focus, and that focus should be for the development of our community members to advance their hockey skills locally. Rural hockey clubs often face adversity, and COWHA have developed many players to continue successful hockey careers beyond minor hockey. We take a lot of pride in the success of our hockey graduates. To further limit the opportunities for hockey players in rural areas by dissolving COWHA would have a direct negative impact on our youth with respect to their mental health and the opportunity to play competitive hockey locally. Many local businesses will be impacted as well.
Consider signing this petition to let the OMHA know that you are against this decision to dissolve the Central Ontario Wolves AAA Hockey Club. This decision will have a negative impact on our rural community, the children's mental health, and local businesses.
COW AAA hockey remains competitive and our community deserves a platform to showcase our talented hockey players.
