OMEGA PROBLEM

OMEGA CONTAINER (PTY) LTD is a company which sells and rents shipping containers. According to their website their company is a company run by individuals who work according to "long established ETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES “. Among their core values are “INTEGRITY & RELIABILITY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. Sometime in 2017 I came across their website and found that they have listed the Cato Manor Indian Cemetery site as one of their Container Depots. In May 2017, I wrote to OMEGA CONTAINER director, Mr Mark Cringle and brought the following matters (among others) to his attention: * that the depot at Cato Manor is established over a historic Indian Cemetery. * that many historical graves and tombstones were illegally damaged and desecrated in order to establish the container depot. * that the use of the cemetery for a container depot is extremely hurtful and impugns the dignity of our community, especially the families & descendants of those buried in the cemetery, and * that the continued use of the cemetery as a container depot is illegal, unethical and socially irresponsible. The company’s response was as follows: ------------ Thank you for below email, please note we at Omega Container have no affiliation, ownership or part ownership with Cato manor depot. Kindly note Cato Manor is not one of nominated depots that we store our containers at. Reason Cato Manor depot does appear on our website is merely to assist our transporters of the depot details as we buy and transport containers for our clients who sometimes stores their units at this depot. We at Omega Container however duly sympathise with you and the families of the below mentioned grave site and wish you well for the future in your fight to save our heritage. ------------ Last month, I realised that they still had the Cato Manor Depot listed as one of their depots. I wrote to them asking them to remove all references to the Cato Manor Depot on their website and communication. This was their reply: ----------- Good day Kuben Please note we list the depot on our website to assist our transporters with details as it a depot we seldom use. Unfortunately as long as the depot is in operation, we will have to provide this service to our suppliers and therefore cannot remove it. -----------
