Keep the carparks at Wakefield Park
The issue
Wakefield Park in Berhampore/Island Bay is a regional sports and recreation hub.
Transport planners have now released the Berhampore to Newtown Parking and Cycleway plan for feedback.
The planning team have used creative parking solutions to retain as many on-road parks as possible and create new off road parks. Not all new car parks will be as convenient and those getting out of cars will have to take care as they cross the inside cycle lane. But we have achieved our goal of retaining the current number of car parks at Wakefield Park, and this has been down to all of you who supported this campaign. You can check out my rough marked up maps in the updates below, on this site, to get a clear idea on where the parking and cycle lanes are located.
But there's more :} Your final job is to go to go to the proposed plan and give feedback to support the changes specific to Wakefield Park section- pages 4 and 5.
It's really important to go online to give your feedback before submissions close 12th October. The key points in your feedback need to be:
1. The 4th screen you will get to shows a pic looking down Adelaide Road past the clubrooms and asks do you support the changes? Tick strongly support. Add any comments on the design.
2. The next screen asks do you support changes proposed at Wakefield Park? Tick strongly support. But think carefully about your answer to the question below, which asks how long you stay there? Remember that this includes preparing for the game, warmup, playing and a visit to the clubrooms for a drink. To play full length games this is likely to be up to 5 hours. For junior games it may be less. (Timed parking could have benefits for Park users- it would control others- residents, commuters and others using up valuable Wakefield car park spaces by parking long term in what are now unlimited parks)
Please also add these comments in the text box below.
a) that your strong support for the changes is based around the plan to provide extra parking in the upper driveway area and on Dover St.
b) that you don't agree with the proposed location of the bike storage box- a 2 storey container- at the southern corner of the turf near the clubrooms. Say that this is not a good location- it will be too imposing- and needs to be located elsewhere.
Many thanks again, Chris.
(This campaign is organised by a coalition of Wakefield Park based groups including: Wellington Olympic Football Club, Island Bay Softball Club, Total Touch, Brooklyn Northern United Football Club, Island Bay United Football Club, Wellington United Football Club.)
