The Issue

The Calypso Waterfall, installed in the heart of Rotterdam seven years ago by the creative minds at Mothership, has become an integral part of the city's cultural and artistic landscape. With initial funding from cultural subsidies and Rotterdam Festivals, this remarkable public artwork stands prominently next to the Pauluskerk, drawing admiration and attention from both locals and international visitors alike.

Not only has the Calypso Waterfall become a symbol of artistic innovation, but it has also become a cherished landmark, enhancing the cultural richness and allure of the city. It serves as a focal point on various cultural and tourist walking routes—inviting exploration and interaction while revitalizing the surrounding area what became due to the homeless visitors from the Pauluskerk an dodgy ara. Because of the much-needed visibility and vibrancy it became a safer place!

Regrettably, this vital piece of Rotterdam's cultural tapestry is now under threat. The private owners of the Calypso where the waterfall is located is contemplating its removal, citing changing priorities and interests. While from the start they gave there full comprehension to use the concrete wall for the waterfall.
