On Monday, April 14, 2025, the Byron Township Board revisited the fate of Whistlestop Dog Park at its regularly scheduled meeting. The room was filled beyond capacity, with only standing room remaining, and the proceedings garnered attention from three regional news outlets—an unprecedented turnout for a meeting that typically sees only a handful of attendees.

Following prepared remarks from three residents, spontaneous and heartfelt testimonies from a dozen others, and comments from several board members, the Board reversed its March 10 decision and voted unanimously to keep the dog park open until if or when a replacement dog park is established.

The township will soon begin discussions on potential new locations for the dog park. It is critical that these conversations remain transparent and inclusive, and your ongoing involvement will help ensure that park-goers’ voices continue to be heard.

This victory would not have been possible without the letters, signatures, and passionate presence of so many dedicated residents. Thank you for your invaluable support. Let’s stay alert and engaged to protect and preserve accessible recreational spaces for dogs and their owners in our community.
