Happy New Year to my fellow railway enthusiasts and petition signers.

On a trip into Central London yesterday (31st December 2025) to see the London New Year's Eve fireworks, i saw Class 455 trains stored at Wimbledon Traincare Depot. Although no longer in regular passenger service, I felt reassured seeing several at the depot as to date twenty four-car sets remain in existence.

As the petition starter I'm not asking for much - the aim is to preserve at minimum a door, window, wheel or Vossloh Kiepe traction motor from one of these units before all units end up scrapped, and a driving cab from one of these units would be a bonus!

These BREL EMUS were one of the first new trains to be built with sliding doors, so these trains are just as historically significant as the steam engines and old London Underground stock and Routemaster buses preserved in the London Transport Museum.

I am glad to see that I am not the only person to create a petition on Change.org about this issue, and as we near 1,400 signatures, this shows that these trains must not be mothballed like the Class 442 trains (which held the world seed record for a DC third rail EMU).
