Bridge to remain open

“New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Matthew J. Driscoll today, September 7th, announced that the Department will no longer consider removing the Nelson Avenue Extension bridges over Interstate 87, the Adirondack Northway, in Saratoga County.” On behalf of our committee I am pleased that NYS DOT now plans to keep this bridge open. It is reassuring to me that they were able to rethink and review the issue and chose to work with concerned citizens to achieve a successful resolution to what could have been a severe hardship for our residents. Our thanks go to our elected officials and NYS DOT officials for their hard work and dedication to favorably resolve the first phase of this issue. – Governor Andrew Como, NYS DOT Commissioner, Matthew Driscoll, Assembywoman Carrie Woerner, Assemblyman Jim Tedisco, Senator Kathy Marchione, Malta Supervisor Vincent DeLucia, Saratoga Springs Mayor Joanne Yepsen, Congressman Paul Tonko, NYS DOT regional director, Sam Zhou, NYSDOT Project Manager Richard Filkins, all the Supervisors of Saratoga County, The Saratoga Springs City Council Members, former NYS DOT General Counsel and Assistant Commissioner for Legal Affairs, Darrell Harp, the thousands who signed our petition and all those who stood behind us on this important issue. We will now work closely with our elected and DOT officials to appropriate money and make certain the bridge replacement is in a future budget on behalf of thousands of local stakeholders who will benefit from the Nelson Avenue Extension bridge over I-87. A big thank you for all your support. Our voices have been heard! Marie Balet Suzanne Balet Haight
