Nelson Ave. Ext. bridge update

Sam Zhou, NYS DOT Region One Director, came by to meet with Peter and I yesterday. He outlined the manner in which decisions are made as to where and how the transportation money is spent. He said our voices ARE being heard loud and clear by DOT officials, but they don't have the money to replace the bridge. However, we still need to keep the letters flowing to our government representatives and NYS DOT officials. He also reassured me that no decision has been made. He has also met with several government officials including Senator Marchione, Assemblywoman Woerner, Mayor Yepsen, Supervisor DeLucia, et al. all of whom spoke favorably on our behalf. He explained the difference between a public hearing and an informational meeting. At a public hearing the public is allowed to air their views, but DOT officials are not allowed to respond at the meeting, only in writing after the meeting. At an informational meeting the public is allowed to air their views, and the DOT officials can respond directly during the meeting. He reassured me that no decision would be made until after the informational meeting. I, and the committee, want to thank all those who have sent letters. Our voices ARE being heard. However, we still need to keep the letters flowing. Write to the DOT officials and legislators to ask them to find the money to replace the bridge and tell them how important this bridge is to us.
